Helping Hands | Supporting Our Community
Helping Hands Depends on the Generosity of our Community, and Summer Is a Great Time to Get Involved!
If you're cleaning out closets, storage rooms, or the garage this season and discover gently used medical or children's equipment no longer being used, please consider donating it to Helping Hands. Donations of items such as walkers, wheelchairs, shower chairs, cribs, strollers, rollaway beds, and other useful equipment help keep our program going and allow us to continue serving residents with affordable, practical resources.
Summer is also a busy season behind the scenes at Helping Hands. With many residents, including valued volunteers and customers, heading to cooler temperatures for the season, our team takes the opportunity to refresh, reorganize, and deep clean the warehouse. We could use a little extra help! Whether you have a few hours to spare or are looking for a meaningful way to give back, volunteering in our air-conditioned warehouse is a great way to support the program and help keep Helping Hands running smoothly.
And if you're welcoming summer visitors, don't forget that Helping Hands may have what you need! From rollaway beds and children's equipment to mobility and medical items, we offer resources that can help make hosting family and guests easier and more comfortable.
Whether you choose to donate, volunteer, shop, or spread the word, your support helps Helping Hands continue making a difference in our community all year long.

Arizona Fire and Medical Authority Lockbox Program
Planning ahead can make a meaningful difference in an emergency.
The Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (AFMA) Lockbox Program offers residents a simple way to help first responders gain quick, secure access to their home when time matters most. The lockbox safely stores a house key and can only be accessed by AFMA.
This small step can offer added peace of mind for you and your loved ones.
A reminder that installation fees will increase after July 1, so now is a good opportunity to learn more or get one set up.
To inquire about the program, contact AFMA at (623) 544-5400 or learn more at https://www.afma.az.gov/.
Greater Independence Starts with a Ride
For many Sun City West residents, transportation plays an important role in maintaining independence, staying connected to the community, and accessing everyday essentials like medical appointments, grocery stores, and local services.
The Ride Choice Program, offered in partnership with Valley Metro, provides eligible individuals with flexible transportation options through a Ride Choice Dispatcher to local taxi companies, rideshare services, and wheelchair-accessible vehicles. Ride Choice allows participants to schedule rides based on their own needs and timing, helping make transportation more convenient and affordable.
Benefits of the program include:
- Flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends
- Reduced transportation costs through participant subsidies
- Wheelchair-accessible ride options
- Greater independence
Applying for Ride Choice is free, and Valley Metro can provide free round-trip transportation to the Mobility Center for eligible Maricopa County applicants upon request.
Call Valley Metro today to apply at (602) 716-2100.
