SUN CITY WEST FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES NEW TRANSIT SERVICE

October 1, 2008 is the target date set by the SCW Foundation Board of Directors for rolling out its new transit service for SCW residents who wish to be transported within Sun City West.  SCAT will continue to operate its full services for SCW residents who wish to be transported beyond the SCW boundaries.

The Foundation, for the past 3 years was under contract with SCAT to financially sponsor one SCAT minibus which was dedicated to Sun City West.  Through the Foundation’s support, SCAT also agreed to hold fares on that service to $3.00.

During the past several months the Foundation has been looking at how transportation could be provided more efficiently and at less cost to the Foundation. During the course of this study a number of ideas came to the forefront and after considerable discussion and planning a decision was made to terminate the contract which provided the financial support for SCATs dedicated SCW minibus.  SCAT was informed on July 2 of the Foundation’s future transit plans.

The Foundation fully recognizes how very helpful SCAT has been in providing its service in SCW and looks forward to continuing to work with SCAT, as well as all other surrounding public transportation agencies, to assure that residents of SCW have a quality transportation service that provides prompt courteous service while holding the line on costs. Passengers will be given full information in the form of a handout which will include contact information, hours of operation beginning Sept. 10 through the end of the month.

More details regarding the transition and the service will be forthcoming in the weeks leading up to October 1st.   WATCH THE WEBSITE www.scwfoundation.org
